Great Grants Awards and Learning Sessions a Success
The Ontario Trillium Foundation’s (OTFs) Regional Great Grants Awards celebrate the vision, commitment and energy of Ontario’s volunteers and community organizations. This year, OTF held 16 award events across the province to celebrate its 25 years of strengthening communities. At the same time, the Foundation also convened important learning opportunities for local not-for-profit and community organizations in these 16 locations.
“The Great Grants Awards celebrate the vision, commitment and energy of Ontario’s volunteers and community organizations,” said L. Robin Cardozo, OTF’s CEO. “We were excited to hold 16 award events across the province and saw this as a unique opportunity to provide professional development training to benefit our grantee organizations in these communities.
The learning sessions were a success with attendance for many of them exceeding the 50 person maximum. Participants learned strategies for recruiting and retaining volunteers as well as strategies for building volunteer leadership, key issues that many not-for-profit organizations are struggling with today.
OTF presents the Great Grants Awards every two years with award winners selected by volunteers who serve on the local Grant Review Team. Winners represent each of OTF’s four funding sectors: arts and culture, environment, human and social services and sports and recreation. This year, two special awards were presented at each of the 16 events. The Grant Review Team Chair’s Award exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism and the 25th Anniversary Award is presented for leadership in the not-for-profit sector.
